Secrets of the Universe
When I started Living Book Press, my goal was to make it easy and affordable for families to use all the wonderful curricula that had already been put together. Many of the books were out of print, hard to find, and far too expensive.
One of these “unicorns” was the Secrets of the Universe series by Paul Fleisher. The rights holder (not the author) took a chance on me, an upstart new publisher with no experience, and granted me the reprint rights. That permission came with a few stipulations: I had to publish it as a complete five-book set, and I only had the rights for seven years.
Working with the author, we updated the text to reflect current scientific understanding, and I even tracked down the original illustrator to secure the rights to the beautiful hand-drawn artwork from the very first edition. Not only were these illustrations far nicer than the later digital ones, there were more of them too.
At the end of 2025, my seven years are up. I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone. I’m currently negotiating with the rights holders to extend my license (it’s looking promising) but just in case things don’t work out, this weekend may be your last chance to grab the series at a good discount.
