Get to know A Mind in the Light
At Living Book Press, our mission is simple: to make homeschooling with great living books as easy and joyful as possible. How do we do that? One key way is by making it effortless to browse the books used in your favorite curricula.
Today, we’re putting the spotlight on one of those key programs: A Mind in the Light. Here are their answers to a few quick questions so you can learn more about it.
About A Mind in the Light
“As an educator and a mother of two lovely daughters, I spent a great deal of time searching for a curriculum which matched the ardent hope in my heart to nurture the minds of my children as well as their hearts.
Over time I found that the ideas and methods of Charlotte Mason came the nearest to matching the educational principles I could embrace. I added some ideas from Classical methods, but mostly I tried to shine a light on the hidden principles within Charlotte Mason’s own books and her PNEU programs. From this was born my own curriculum: A Mind in the Light.
This curriculum reflects the depth of my feelings for each and every child’s mind and endeavors to give teachers the tools they need to create an atmosphere of learning which stretches, delights and inspires, leading a student to the light. In this light, the mind finds truth, beauty and good.”
1. What do you love most about Homeschooling?
When I was homeschooling my two daughters, I loved the flexibility in not just what we learned but in how we learned and at what pace we learned. I think this is one of homeschooling’s greatest strengths.
2. What is your favourite book listed in your curriculum and why?
Choosing just one book is very difficult. Our Island Story is so foundational to any Charlotte Mason curriculum, but I also really love the impact that poetry and great literature has on our hearts and minds.
3. What are you hopes for A Mind in the Light in the future?
My hopes for A Mind in the Light in the future includes completing the program guides all the way up through the years for all main time periods, although I will be focusing on Years 1-6 first. I will continue to release guides individually as well. Look for some new guides for Shakespeare and Citizenship in the near future.
