Welcome to Digital December
Digital December is one of our favourite traditions at Living Book Press—a once-a-year celebration of beautiful, living books, and a chance for families to build a rich digital library at a fraction of the usual cost. Each December we release a brand-new bundle of digital titles, alongside updates to earlier years, so this is the only time when you can get the entire year’s collection together in one place.
If you’re joining us for the first time, welcome! And if you’ve collected previous years, this is the perfect opportunity to fill in the gaps, catch the latest updates, and expand your library with this year’s additions. Many families look forward to Digital December all year long, and we’re grateful to have you as part of this tradition.
What’s Different This Year?
Bundles by Year
2025 was a huge year for Living Book Press—almost half as many books were released in the last eleven months as in the previous eight years combined! With so many new titles, it was no longer practical to maintain one giant bundle with small updates for earlier customers. I spent quite a bit of time thinking through the best way to keep Digital December sustainable long-term and settled on organising everything by year.
This approach keeps things much simpler for everyone. Instead of updating every bundle every December, only the bundle for that year receives additions. It also makes downloading, organising, and updating your files far more straightforward. As part of this shift, I’ve included ePub files free of charge for anyone who purchased previous bundles, and all newly created ePubs now appear in the bundle for the year that book was originally released by LBP.
EPUB titles.
This year, thanks to the support of the LBP community, we’ve been able to reinvest income from previous digital bundles to significantly expand our ePub offerings. Every 2025 release that is suitable for reflowable format now includes an ePub, and we’ve also added 83 new ePub files to earlier years’ bundles.
My goal is that by the end of 2026, every suitable title in the LBP catalogue will have both PDF and ePub editions available. Fingers crossed!
Metadata
After last year’s bundle, a customer kindly reached out to let me know that the digital files didn’t contain embedded metadata. This year I’ve gone back and recreated almost every PDF to ensure they now include:
- the front and back covers
- proper title and author metadata
- consistent internal structure
This should make organising and importing your books into reading apps (and tools like Calibre) much easier.
Consistent Folders
We’ve also (finally!) standardised our folder structure across all bundles. Starting this year, every bundle uses the same set of category folders. This means you can extract new bundles into your existing Digital Library and:
- updated files will overwrite older versions
- new titles will slot neatly into the correct category
- your whole library will stay cleanly organised
The last few years used slightly different structures (from each other and from this one), but moving forward everything will remain consistent. If any changes are ever needed again, I’ll include a clear guide on how to adjust your folders, along with updated ZIP files.
This Year’s Bundle
The 2025 Digital December Bundle contains 141 new books, carefully restored and beautifully typeset, with clean PDFs and—whenever suitable—brand-new ePub editions. It’s one of our richest collections yet.
This year’s additions include an outstanding selection of biographies from The Story of… series, a fascinating collection of living books on industry (exploring how everyday materials such as sugar, leather, and cotton are produced), five new Christmas titles, a set of citizenship and civics works, the full series of Father Brown mysteries, Dallas Lore Sharp’s Seasons quartet, new entries from The First Book of… collection, Edith M. Patch’s Science at Home readers, and many more treasures across literature, history, nature study, and science.
