At Living Book Press, our goal is simple: to make beautiful, high-quality editions of living books accessible to modern families around the world. Alongside our carefully typeset print editions, we also provide digital formats to make reading flexible and convenient—whether you’re learning at the kitchen table, travelling, or organising your library digitally.
We currently offer two digital formats for our books: PDF and ePub. Each serves a different need, and many families choose to use both. Please keep reading to discover the differences and to help you decide which is best for your family.
PDF — A Consistent, Typeset Page
A PDF is a fixed-layout file that preserves the exact appearance of the printed page.
Every PDF we release is fully typeset—fonts, layout, spacing, and illustrations appear exactly as intended.
Best for:
- Printing individual pages or chapters
- Tablets, laptops, and desktop computers
- Homeschool read-alouds where everyone is looking at the same page
- Readers who prefer the feel of a “real book” layout
Because PDFs match the print design, they are especially helpful for books with:
- Illustrations woven tightly into the text
- Poetry, diagrams, or unusual formatting
ePub — A Flexible, Reflowable Reading Experience
An ePub is a reflowable ebook format. This means the text adapts to your device and your preferences—font size, layout, margins, and background colours can be adjusted.
Best for:
- Phones, e-ink readers, and smaller tablets
- Large-print reading
- Offline reading on Kindle (via Send-to-Kindle), Apple Books, Google Play Books, or Kobo
- Travelling families who want many books on one device
Because the text flows freely, ePubs work exceptionally well for:
- Straightforward narrative texts
- Biographies, fiction, and short stories
- Title where images can appear cleanly without affecting the reading flow
Why Some Books Are PDF-Only (For Now)
Some of the books in our catalogue involve layouts that do not convert cleanly into reflowable ePubs—for example:
- Highly illustrated books where text wraps around images
- Complex tables or diagrams
- Older texts with unpredictable formatting in their original editions
- Manuals, nature-study titles, or books that rely on precise placement on the page
Rather than release a sub-par ePub, we prefer to ensure the quality is up to LBP standards before making it available.
Our Commitment: ePubs for Every Suitable Title
We are actively working toward having every suitable book available in both PDF and ePub formats.
- All new releases are now created with both formats in mind from the start.
- Older books are being converted as quickly as possible while maintaining accuracy, clean formatting, and high readability.
- Whenever a new ePub becomes available, customers automatically receive it as a free update each December.
Our goal is that your digital library will remain both beautiful and useful across all devices and reading styles.
