Description
When young Robin Hood commits a crime against the Sheriff of Nottingham, he is forced into hiding in Sherwood Forest. There he is joined by a group of colourful characters also escaping wrongful oppression. Along with Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet, and Tinker, Robin Hood and his Men get involved in many fine feasts and adventures, robbing the rich of their wealth and distributing it amongst the poor.
With this edition Howard Pyle renewed interest and excitement in Robin Hood and his men, while introducing elements that has influenced other writers, artists, and filmmakers ever since.
This edition is complete and unabridged, written in a colourful old English idiom and featuring sixty-nine of the author’s own decorations and illustrations.

Meredith Broadwell –
I’m glad I read this because it *is* a classic. The stories are light hearted for the most part, and I love how Robin is able to laugh at himself. That seems to me to be one of the biggest differences between him/his merry band and the Sheriff and churchmen. The last chapter was really wonderful, and I even loved the epilogue (though it was sad) for how it highlighted the noble characteristics of forgiveness and loyalty, as well as a beautiful friendship between men, which I feel like we don’t get a lot of these days.
For all that, I don’t think I would have finished it if I had not been reading with my kids. My two older kids LOVED this (2nd and K). Even months after finishing it, Robin Hood characters continue to pop up in their play.
It was a little tough for me to read aloud, and I admit we listened to a free audible recording fairly often while following along in the text, but don’t discount how much these kids will be able to glean from it!
