Sammy is a salmon who has a dream of adventuring to Coral Land. He meets a guide and along the way he sees a lot of exotic creatures. Lots of details, not my favorite, but itโs a good book if you like learning about ocean life.

โWell, children,โ said Grandma, โwhich shall it beโfairy stories, stories about giants, or really truly stories?โ That opening line captures the heart of How Sammy Went to Coral Land, because it truly is a little of all three.
Sammyโs journey from a northern mountain stream to the vibrant coral reef is both adventurous and deeply instructive. Along the way, children encounter sharks, coral, shells, and countless sea creatures in a way that feels natural and engaging rather than textbook-driven. It is a beautiful example of a living bookโrich in description and full of opportunities for narration, drawing, and deeper exploration.
Living Book Press has done a wonderful job with this edition. The illustrations are lovely, the print is easy to read, and the overall quality invites you to linger.
This would make a perfect Form I read-aloud for natural philosophy or a Form II independent read. A truly delightful way to learn about the wonders of the ocean.
