Description
When Peter Rabbit joins in with Old Mother Nature’s ‘classroom’ chats he learns all about the animals who share the Green Meadows and Forest with him.
In these lessons Peter learns about animals both big and small, from near and far, like the Hare, but also creatures like the Flying Squirrel, Grizzly Bear, Otter, Fox, Armadillo and many more.
This collection of stories has thrilled generations of readers, and is sure to delight many more. Not only a charming introduction to the orders of animals in North America, but also a great study into how they relate to each other.

I love how seamlessly Burgess leads the child from Peter Rabbit tales into his stories of bird and animal life. They are simple, easy to follow stories of how Peter rabbit goes to see his friend Jenny Wren in the orchard and easily weaves scientific facts into his narrative.

I read this aloud to my kids (2nd, K, and PreK) during lunch over the course of the school year. It wasn’t my personal favorite, but my two older kids loved it. I will include my daughter’s review below:
My name is — and I am 8. The Burgess Animal Book is amazing! I have read other Burgess books and I really enjoyed the anticipation of waiting for when “Reddy Fox Joins the School.” I had a great time hearing about “all the little people” and joined Peter Rabbit and Mother Nature on the next lesson every morning. I can’t wait for the next Burgess book on the list! Hip hip hooray for the Burgess Animal Book! TW Burgess has great books for sure!
